Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senator Evan Bayh announced today that he will recognize Briljent as a small business success story at the Job Fair, Job Training and Small Business Summit in Fort Wayne on August 9th that he is co-hosting with IPFW, JobWorks, WorkOne, Inc., Ivy Tech Community College of Indiana, Workforce Development Group, Fort Wayne Women's Bureau, SCORE, Small Business Development Council, Northeast Indiana Innovation Center, and the Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce.
At the summit, business owners can learn more about the tools and resources that can help them grow their companies, such as the U.S. Department of Commerce, which can help companies export their goods and services, and local universities that are available to support worker training. Bayh, a member of the Senate Small Business Committee, hopes that stories like Briljent's will inspire other business owners to use similar resources to effectively grow their businesses and strengthen Indiana's economy.
"By continuing to adapt to the ever-changing business environment, Briljent is able to compete and succeed on a whole new level today," Senator Bayh said. "It's proof that with access to the right resources, small businesses can become big successes, strengthening Indiana's economy and creating the jobs of tomorrow. These are the kind of results that can inspire others to explore the full potential of their own companies, and I am working hard to ensure that all Indiana small businesses have the same opportunity to achieve that success."
Kathy Carrier, founder and CEO of Briljent, will speak at the summit to describe how Briljent has transitioned from a small technical training facilitation firm to a larger organization, offering a range of services, including technical writing and documentation. After 10 of Briljent’s largest clients cancelled their accounts due to budget cuts following 9/11, the company adapted by branching into new service areas, which now account of half of Briljent’s business. Today, Briljent continues to grow with Fortune 500 clients in the Midwest and across the nation.
The Fort Wayne Job Fair, Job Training and Small Business Summit will be held on Wednesday, August 9th from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Walb Student Union, 2101 E. Coliseum Blvd., Fort Wayne.
